How to Use Your Crochet Soap Saver

One of the best things about these crochet soap sacks is how versatile they are. Different people like to use them in different ways, so you can really make them work for your own routine.

Some people like to use the soap saver as a washcloth alternative, placing the soap inside the sack and using it directly on the skin. The cotton creates a gentle exfoliating texture, which feels lovely and helps the soap lather up nicely.

Others prefer to use it simply as a soap holder, keeping their bar of soap separate. In this case, the sack is used to hang the soap up to dry after use, helping it last longer and preventing it from sitting in water.

They’re also perfect for gifting. You can pop a bar of soap inside, tie it with ribbon or twine, and you’ve got a really thoughtful handmade gift. These work beautifully in spa sets or baby hampers.

You can even use them for:

  • Keeping soap scraps together so nothing goes to waste.
  • Storing travel toiletries.
  • Holding small items like cotton pads.
  • Organising little essentials in your bag.

There’s no right or wrong way to use them, which is what makes this such a fun and practical little project.

This cotton aran is soft yet durable, making it ideal for items that will be handled frequently or exposed to moisture, such as crochet soap sacks.

Any cotton Aran or worsted yarn may be used for this pattern. If you don’t have this yarn, you can easily substitute with:

Customisation

This crochet soap sack is designed for an average bar of soap but can easily be adapted for other items like artisan soap, gift cards, phones, or similar gadgets.

  • Starting chain: Make an odd-numbered chain that matches the width of your item.
  • Thin items like a phone or tablet: no extra chains needed
  • Thicker items like artisan soap: add 2 extra chains
  • Top and closure loop: Make the front loop by skipping 2 stitches to create the gap.
  • Place the skipped stitches at the centre front
  • Place the long closure chain over the centre 2 stitches at the back
  • Adjust the length by adding or subtracting chains to suit the size of your item

This method keeps the sack functional and allows easy customization for different small items.

These crochet soap sacks are such a practical little make, and once you’ve made one, you’ll see how useful they are.

They’re perfect for gifting, great for using up your yarn stash, and a lovely way to add a handmade touch to everyday items.
