Mellow Dreams Scarf Video Tutorial
Step-by-Step Instructions (video transcript)
1. Start with the Foundation Chain
Begin with a slip knot on your hook. Chain a multiple of three plus one. For an adult-sized scarf, chain 30, or adjust for your desired width.
2. First Row: Granny Stitch Setup
- Work a double crochet (dc) into the fourth chain from the hook.
- Skip two stitches, then work a granny cluster (three double crochets) into the next stitch.
- Repeat: Skip two stitches, work a granny cluster into the next stitch. Continue across until three chains remain.
- In the last chain, place two double crochets.
3. Second Row: Building the Granny Clusters
- Chain two and turn (this counts as a half double crochet, or hdc).
- Work granny clusters (three double crochets) into each space between clusters from the previous row.
- End the row with a half double crochet into the top of the chain from foundation.
4. Third Row: Alternating the Pattern
- Chain two and turn.
- Place one double crochet in the first space.
- Work granny clusters into each space across.
- Finish with one double crochet in the last space and a half double crochet into the top of the turning chain.
5. Repeat the Last Two Rows
These two rows form the repeating pattern. Continue until your scarf reaches the desired length.
Customising Your Scarf
This pattern is as versatile as it gets!
- Colourful Stripes: Use your stash to create vibrant or random stripes. Change colours every few rows for a playful effect.
- Yarn Cakes for Effortless Colour: Yarn cakes with gradient or self-striping colourways make it easy to achieve a professional, multicoloured look without all those pesky ends to weave in.
- Adjust the Size: Chain more for a wider scarf, or fewer for a narrow one. Add extra rows to make it as long as you like.
Add a Matching Beanie
Complete your set with the Granny Stitch Beanie, made with the same stitch pattern. It’s just as quick and satisfying to crochet! Find the full tutorial in another post on my blog.
Finishing Touches
For extra cosy cuteness, add faux fur pom-poms to each end of your scarf. Watch my video tutorial to see how it's done!
