Why make a crochet soap saver?
A crochet soap saver pouch is one of those cute little projects that ends up being surprisingly useful. Here are a few ways people use them:
Zero waste bathroom essential: Keep your soap bar in one place so it lasts longer and doesn’t melt away on the sink or bath edge. After using your soap, simply pop in the bag and hang up to dry.
Exfoliating Scrub: Use the soap directly in the crochet saver, as an exfoliating scrub in the shower.
Use every last scrap: Pop in small leftover bits of soap so nothing gets wasted.
Easy handmade gift idea: Perfect for spa sets, gift baskets, bridal showers, or simple handmade presents. Pair with a nice bar of soap for an easy gift.
Not just for soap: Use it as a small reusable pouch for jewellery, travel bits, lavender sachets, or even as a simple gift card holder.

About the Yarn
For the best results, this pattern uses cotton aran yarn for strength, absorbency, and stitch definition. A cotton blend yarn would also work well.
The Prairie Soap Saver pattern is made using Yarnsmiths Cotton Aran, a 100% cotton aran weight yarn. Each 50g ball contains 80m (87 yards), providing excellent stitch definition and a soft, absorbent texture that is ideal for kitchen and bathroom projects.
The cotton feels gentle on the skin while remaining durable, making it perfect for everyday use. The pattern uses two colours and requires less than 50g of yarn in total, giving you a small, quick project that is also great for gifting.

I-cord
Make a slip knot and place it on your hook, leaving an 80-inch tail.
Wrap the tail yarn from front to back over the hook.
Yarn over with the working yarn and pull through both loops on the hook.
Repeat steps 2-3, always wrapping the tail yarn from front to back, then yarning over and pulling through both loops.
Continue until your I-cord measures approximately 30 inches.
Finishing
Once your I-cord is complete, thread it in and out of the eyelets around the top of your soap saver, weaving it evenly all the way around until both ends meet at the centre front. Tie a knot at each end of the I-cord.
Pop your soap inside the saver, then bring the ends together and tie them in a neat bow at the front to close.
