Hook

6.00 mm hook

Other Supplies

• Yarn needle

• Scissors

Gauge

11 sts x 10 rows = 10 cm (4in) in prairie st pattern (hat body)

Crochet Abbreviations (US Terms)

ch - chain

hdc - half double crochet

sc - single crochet

sk - skip

sl st - slip stitch

st(s) - stitch(es)

Pattern Notes

• Read pattern carefully all the way through before starting.
• Use two strands held together throughout.
• Use the reverse sl st join for a neater look.
• Ch1 at start of row does not count as a stitch.
• Hook sizes given are a recommendation only, use the size that allows you to meet gauge.
• You may use magic ring to start if you prefer.

Crown

With yarn held double, ch4 and join to form ring

Round 1 (right side) ch1, 11 hdc into ring, join with sl st to 1 st. (11 hdc)

Round 2 ch1, 2hdc in 1 st and each st around, join with sl st to 1 st. (22 hdc)

Round 3 ch1, 2hdc in 1 st, [hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st] repeat around, hdc in last st, join with sl st to 1 st. (33 hdc)

Round 4 ch1, 2hdc in 1 st, [hdc in next 2 sts, 2hdc in next st] repeat around, hdc in last 2 sts, join with sl st to 1 st. (44 hdc)

Round 5 ch1, 2sc in 1 st, [sc in next 3 sts, 2sc in next st] repeat around until last 3 sts, sc in next st, 2sc in next st, sc in last st, join with sl st to 1 st. Turn. (56 sc)

Measure the crown at this point to ensure gauge is met.

Hat Body

Round 1 ch1, sk 1 st (the sl st), [2hdc in next st, sk1] repeat around, join with sl st to 1 st. Turn. (56 hdc)

Round 2 ch1, sc in 1 st (in the sl st) and each st around, join with sl st to 1 st. Turn. (56 sc)

Repeat rounds 1 & 2, 4 more times, for a total of 10 rounds. Do not turn on last round.

Brim

Round 1 ch1, 2sc in 1 st, [sc in next st, 2sc in next st] repeat around, sc in last st, join with sl st to 1 st. (84 sc)

Round 2 ch1, sc in each st around, join with sl st to 1st st.

Repeat round 2, twice more.

Next round ch1, 2sc in 1 st, [sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st] repeat around, sc in remaining sts, join with sl st to 1 st. (112 sc)

Repeat round 2, 4 more times.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
