Infinity Scarf - Our Happy CAL Place, weekly crochet along group on Ravelry...

Hello everyone, this week at Our Happy CAL Place we have been making this Infinity Scarf, pattern by Brenda Grobler.  If you like a good crochet along then be sure to check this group out.  They feature both weekly and monthly crochet alongs and there is always something for everyone.

This was a nice quick and easy project, the pattern was well laid out and easy to understand.  I made a few alterations, making my scarf half the length stated in the pattern.  I will be donating this scarf to our local church to use in the shoe box appeal and I didn't want it to take up the whole box.  The original pattern has the scarf wrapping around twice.  I also added a twist before sewing mine together.

Here is my interpretation of Brenda Grobler's

Infinity Scarf

The design uses the Iris stitch pattern which I love...

My version wraps around the neck once with a twist in the front.

I used Stylecraft Jeanie yarn with a 5mm hook, it's my first time using this yarn and I really love it.    I'm very pleased with how it turned out and would like to make this again in the full size.  I hope the recipient will like it.

Pin it for later...

Thanks for stopping by and if you would like to see more patten reviews and free patterns (I post new patterns each week) be sure to subscribe...

Sunflower Granny Squares - Learn how to crochet them in this tutorial by Lullaby Lodge...

Hello friends, autumn is upon us, the air is crisp in the morning, the days are still warm with a last hint of summer and the leaves are starting to turn golden and fall off the trees.  What better way to celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of fall with this gorgeous, sunny, sunflower, granny square.

Sunflower Granny Square

Materials

Yarn
Darning needle

Hook

Use a hook recommended on your yarn ball band

Abbreviations US Terms (UK Conversion)

dc - double crochet (treble crochet)
sc - single crochet (double crochet)
tr - treble crochet (double treble crochet)
hdc - half double crochet (half treble crochet)
ch - chain
st(s) - stitch(es)
sp(s) - space(s)
sl st - slip stitch
cl - cluster
bcl - beginning cluster
ps - puff stitch
yo - yarn over
sk - skip

Special Stitches

Beginning cluster: ch2, [Yo, insert hook into st and pull up a loop, yo pull through 2 loops] x3, yo pull through all loops, ch1 to lock in place.

Cluster: [Yo, insert hook into st and pull up a loop, yo pull through 2 loops] x4, yo pull through all loops, ch1 to lock in place.

Puff stitch: [Yo, insert hook into st and pull up a long loop] x4, yo pull through all loops, ch1 to secure puff.

Other notes:  US terms throughout.  I used aran / worsted cotton yarn to make my squares with a 5mm (H) hook.  This creates a square that measures approximately 6 inches.  You can of course make your squares using any yarn, just use the hook size recommended on your yarn ball band, (this may change the size of your square).  When starting the first ps, pull up a loop to the height of the st, this looks more seamless than chaining 2 to start.

Granny Square

Ch4 and join with sl st to form ring.

Round 1 Ch1 (does not count as st), 12sc into ring, join to 1st sc.  (12sc)

Round 2 Ch1, sc in same st, [ch3, sc in next st] around, ch3, sl st to sc.  (12sc, 12 ch3 sps)

Round 3 Sl st into next sp, ch1, sc in same sp, [ch3, sc in next sp] around, ch3, sl st to sc.  (12sc, 12 ch3 sps)

Round 5 Bcl in same sp, ch1,  [cl in next sp, ch1] around, sl st to top bcl.  (24cl)

If you are starting a new colour, join in any ch sp.  If continuing with same colour, sl st to next ch sp.

Round 6 Ch4 (counts as tr), 2tr in same sp, ch2, 3tr in same sp, *3dc in next sp, 3hdc in next sp, 3sc in next sp, 3hdc in next sp, 3dc in next sp, [3tr, ch2, 3tr] in next sp* repeat from *to * 3 times, 3dc in next sp, 3hdc in next sp, 3sc in next sp, 3hdc in next sp, 3dc in next sp, join with sl st to top ch4.  (24tr, 24dc, 24hdc, 12sc)

These sunflowers would also make great coasters.  Simply omit round 6 and instead work 3sc in each ch sp around.

I really enjoyed designing this square and I think a blanket made with these squares would look fabulous.  What would you make with yours?  Let me know in the comments below...

I used this motif for the basis of a beautiful granny square scarf, you can find the video tutorial here...

Ombre Crochet Coasters - Our Happy CAL Place, weekly and monthly crochet along group on Ravelry...

Hello everyone, now that the busy summer holidays are behind us, I have had more time to take part in some crochet alongs again and I thought I would share with you what I have been making this week...

At Our Happy CAL Place, this week's crochet along has been these pretty "Ombre Crochet Coasters",  pattern by Marinke Slump.  It is such a quick and simple pattern, you can whip these up in no time at all and they would make a great last minute gift for someone you love.  The pattern is very easy to follow and it has been lovely to see everyone's different takes on the design.  Why don't you head on over to the CAL group and take a peek.  The group runs both weekly and monthly cals, so there is always something for everyone and the members are a really friendly bunch, why not come and join us?

Here's my interpretation...

Ombre Crochet Coasters...

I had some variegated yarn in my stash, which I never really know what to do with.  I have never been the biggest fan of variegated yarns, but I think they came out ok...

I'm not sure which of the two colours is my favourite.  Which do you like best?

Just the right size for my cup of tea...

Happy hooking!

The "Diane Rachael" granny square, a tutorial by Lullaby Lodge...

Hello friends, I have a really special pattern to share with you today, this pretty granny square.  Sadly a year ago we buried my sister Diane.  She suffered for many years from Multiple Sclerosis, a truly terrible disease.  I wanted to make something in her honour and so the Diane Rachael Square was born.

My sister loved the colour yellow and even had her husband paint her room in yellow so it would cheer her up.  She also loved flowers particularly daffodils, so the square just had to be of a flower design in yellow yarn...

Learn how to knit lace with this simple Caron Cakes colour block scarf - Free knitting pattern by Lullaby Lodge...

We are very fast approaching autumn and it's time to start thinking about making something to keep us cosy when the weather starts to get colder.  I want to share with you my pattern for this Shetland Lace scarf.  This pattern was previously only available to buy in my online stores and is now available for you here, free on my blog.

The Shetland Lace Scarf is worked back and forth on straight needles and is comprised of a variation of the Old Shale stitch.  The lace is created by simple increases and decreases on a 4-row repeat, making this a perfect introduction to lace knitting.  An adventurous beginner could easily master this pattern.  The yarn cake creates a lovely colour block effect, with no need to keep changing colours.  The yarn does all the work for you.  There is also a matching hat pattern which you can find here...
