Materials
- Yarn: I’m using Drops Karisma, but any DK yarn will work.
- Hook: See size chart for recommended hook sizes
- Scissors
- Darning needle (for weaving in ends)
About The Yarn
Size Chart
Abbreviations US Terms (UK terms)
ch - chain
sl st - slip stitch
st - stitch
sp - space
dc - double crochet (treble crochet)
mc - main colour
cc - contrast colour
blo - back loop only
Pattern Notes:
- Read pattern carefully all the way through before starting.
- The hook size recommended in the size chart is a suggestion only, use hook size that enables you to meet gauge.
- Check gauge, gauge is measured by comparing finished granny square to required size (see size chart page 4).
- Ch3 at start of round counts as a dc throughout
- Motifs are crocheted first and then joined, finally ribbing is added to the top and cuff.
- Cuff may be made longer or shorter by adjusting the number of starting chains.
- When changing colour, work the final yarn over of the last stitch in the current colour using the new colour, then continue crocheting with the new colour.
- Carry unused yarn loosely across your work, crocheting over this yarn as you go.
- In round 4 crochet over any long floats
- Stitch markers may be used to help keep track of 1st & last stitch of ribbing.

Heart Granny Square Make 2
With CC ch4, join with sl st to form ring.
Round 1 ch3, 2dc into ring, [ch2, 3dc into ring] x3, ch2, join with sl st to top ch3. (12dc, 4ch2 sp)
Round 2 sl st in next 2 st’s and in corner sp, ch3, 2dc, ch2, 3dc in same sp, [3dc, ch2, 3dc in next sp] x3, join with sl st to top ch3. (24dc, 4ch2 sp)
Round 3 sl st in next 2 st’s and in corner sp, [ch3, 2dc, ch2, 3dc] in same sp, 3dc in next sp, with MC, [3dc, ch2, 3dc] in next corner sp, with CC, 3dc in next sp, with MC, [3dc, ch2, 3dc] in next corner sp, with CC 3dc in next sp, [3dc, ch2, 3dc] in next corner sp, with MC 3dc in next sp, with CC join with sl st to top ch3. (36dc, 4ch2 sp)
Round 4 (adult sizes only) with CC sl st in next 2 st’s and in corner sp (carrying MC across), fasten off CC. Draw MC through corner sp to front, [ch3, 2dc, ch2, 3dc] in same sp, [3dc in next 2 sp, 3dc, ch2, 3dc in corner sp] x3, 3dc in next 2 sp, join with sl st to top ch 3. (48dc, 4ch2 sp)
Round 5 (XL only)
With MC sl st in next 2 st’s and in corner sp, [ch3, 2dc, ch2, 3dc] in same sp, [3dc in next 3 sp, 3dc, ch2, 3dc in corner sp] x3, 3dc in next 3 sp, join with sl st to top ch 3. (60d, 4ch2 sp)
Plain Granny Square Make 2
Following instruction for heart granny square but ignoring all colour changes. Make 2 plain granny squares in MC.
Joining Squares
Join one heart and one plain square together as follows
- With right sides together, leaving the top and bottom of heart open.
- With slip knot on hook, join with sc in corner sp though both pieces.
- Sc in each st across, joining both sides together, ending with sc in corner sp. Fasten off.
Join other side leaving a gap for the thumb.
- Rotate work so opposite side is facing and join with sc in corner sp.
- sc in next 2 st’s through both pieces.
- Folding front square towards you to reveal back square, working in back square only, LOOSELY sl st in each st until 2 st’s remain.
- Sc last 2 st’s through both sides and sc in corner sp, turn.
- Ignoring 1st sc, sl st in next 2 sc, then working in back square only LOOSELY sl st in each st until you reach the join, sl st in sc, fasten off.
Top ribbing
With right sides facing, join MC to any corner sp on back of glove, making sure the gap for the thumb is in the correct place (this will need to be the other way round for 2nd glove).
Row 1 Ch6 (ch4 for child sizes), sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in every st, sl st in next st on motif, turn. (5sl sts)
Row 2 Ignore 1st sl st, in BLO sl st in each st across, turn
Row 3 Ch1, sl st in BLO in each st across, sl st into next st on motif, turn.
Repeat rows 2 & 3 until you have worked around the entire top of the glove. When joining to motif corner spaces count as one st and the stitch where motifs are joined also counts as one st (see video page 5). Fasten off.
Cuff Ribbing
The ribbing for the cuff is made in the same way as the top, instead ch11 (ch9 for child sizes) at start and then continue in the same manner as for top.
Finishing
Sew seams closed using mattress stitch, fasten off and weave in ends.
