Cabin Fever Crochet Along - New weekly CAL featuring guest hosts and designers...

Hello friends, I hope you are all coping and staying safe.  As many of us are in lockdown, I thought it would be a great time to have another little crochet along.  Something with a different theme each week, perfect for using up your stash.

The CAL will be run over at the Facebook Group, where you will be able to post your photos.  Group members will also be able to volunteer to host each week's CAL and I am also hoping to include some guest designers.

For those of you who don't use Facebook I will add a section to this post for each week's chosen pattern.

Useful links including other CALs...

Cabin Fever Crochet Along

Starting April 4th, each new week's CAL will start on a Saturday and last for one week. They will each feature one of the following themes -
  • First Saturday: Kitchen & Bath
  • Second Saturday: For the Home
  • Third Saturday: Gift Ideas
  • Fourth Saturday: Guest Designer
  • Fifth Saturday: Lucky Dip
If you wish to host, tag me in a comment in the Facebook group and let me know which week you would like to host, you can see available dates in the files section of the group page. If you have your own blog and design your own patterns perhaps you would like to be a featured guest designer, you can email me at for more information.

Instructions for hosts
  • Please choose patterns that fit the theme and can easily be completed in just a few hours.
  • Make your chosen pattern before the cal starts and provide photos.
  • Post at your earliest convenience on the Saturday you are scheduled to host (we do understand time zones will differ)
  • Copy & paste the template into your post (this can be found in the files section of the group page), filling out all relevant details & linking the pattern either a direct link or to the Ravelry pattern page.
  • Post photo of your finished item in the comments
  • Be available to answer any queries or questions about the pattern
  • I will be available to offer any help you need

I hope this CAL will create a real community spirit in these troubled times and most importantly keep our spirits up.

Weekly Patterns & Hosts

Week 1

Good morning everyone, it's time for week one of our Cabin Fever CAL. This week's theme is Kitchen & Bath and I have chosen something quick and easy to get us started.

We haven't had any member volunteers yet from the Facebook Group, so I have been working to get more guest designers instead, but if you would like to host one week, please let me know and I will add you to the line up. I hope you enjoy this week's pattern...

April Week 1: Kitchen & Bath

Yarn usage:  Around 60g

Time:  30 mins - 1 hour

Ability:  Very easy pattern using basic stitches.

Other notes:  A nice quick and easy pattern.  I don’t have much DK cotton so I used Aran weight yarn for mine, with a 5mm hook.  I chained 30 to start and skipped one row from each end.  The finished cloth turned out the same measurements given in the pattern.

You can see my version below…

Week 2

"Good morning! My name is Agat, I’m the designer behind Made By Gootie. I started designing 3 years ago, and today I want to share the Joyful Mandala, my first design, which was published in I Like Crochet magazine."

April week 2: For the Home

Pattern: Joyful Mandala

Yarn usage: 100% cotton 100-120 yards (91 - 110 m)

Time: Approx.. 2 hours.

Ability: Easy to intermediate

Other notes: This pattern will embrace with love all the little leftovers yarn balls lying around you stash!

Week 3

"Good morning! I’m Cat from Crochet Cloudberry. I have been crocheting about 5 years and began designing crochet projects just under two years ago. I have had patterns published in the UK magazine Simply Crochet and Crochet Now. Today I am sharing the Strawberry Tissue Pouch as part of the Cabin Fever CAL."
Week & Theme: April week 2 Gifts
Yarn usage: 4 ply cotton, I used Scheepjes Catona in Hot Red (less than 20g), Kiwi (less than 10g) and yellow (scrap)
Time: 2 - 3 hours.
Ability: easy
Other notes: This is a perfect cheery gift for a friend who is under the weather.

Week 4

"I am Marjan Hoebeke-Pfaff from Atelier Marie-Lucienne and this week I'm going to take care of you and encourage you to be really creative.
Key data of this week's Lullaby Lodge Cabin Fever Crochet Along:"
Week & Theme: Crochet jewellery (Guest Designer)
Yarn usage: Yarn weight “fine” (50g = 125m; I used Schachenmayr Catania) approx. 10m
Time: 15 Minutes
Ability: confident crocheter (Knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques is assumed - but as there's a video-tutorial, everyone can join)
Other notes: "The Ranunculus can be crocheted in any yarn weight you like (using the corresponding hook). The Ranunculus can be used in many ways –I’ll be posting examples every day. As an addition to the pattern, there’s also a how-to to make a crochet brooch (ups - blooper - this should be a secret still) with these flowers. I am eager to see your creations with the Persian Buttercup!"

Week 5

No photo description available.

"Good morning! My name is Agat, I’m the designer behind
Made By Gootie. I started designing 3 years ago, and today I want to share my Reusable Face Scrubbies. I designed this pattern after I made a decision to minimize the amount of waste I produce."

Week & Theme: Kitchen & Bath

Yarn usage: 100% cotton 120-135 yards (110 - 125 m) for 4 scrubbies

Time: approx. 1 hour.

Ability: easy to intermediate

Other notes: Use 100% cotton, it's better for your skin and easy to wash in the washing machine.

Week 6
Good morning everyone, it's time for week 6 of our Cabin Fever CAL. Unfortunately we have not had any volunteers for this week or guest designers, so I will be hosting.
Here is the one I made...
Week & Theme: week 6, "For the Home"
Yarn usage: Varies on size
Time: It took me an hour and a half to make the small size
Ability: Easy
Other notes: On first glance the pattern may look complicated and fiddly, but it's not. Once you start crocheting it is very easy. I used 2 strands of DK yarn to make mine with a 5mm hook

Week 7

"Good Day! I am Susanna from Fosbas.
I am glad to be hosting this CAL.
I've been crocheting for as long as I can remember, but started designing my patterns about 4 years ago.
Today, we'd be using my Arewa Ear warmer pattern."

Week & Theme: Gift Idea

Yarn usage: Any (#3) Double Knit yarn, 80-120 yards

Time: approx.. 3 hours.

Ability: Easy

Other notes: This pattern is written for 3 different sizes; Toddler (Teens and Adult)

Other Material: Elastic Ear tie (I have attached a link to a video showing how to join this)
Have fun making this ear warmer for yourself or kids or your loved ones ❤️.

Week 8

Hello everyone and welcome to week 8 of our Cabin Fever CAL. This week the theme is Lullaby Lodge, so we will be making one of my own patterns. I have chosen the Helix Ice Pop Cosy. With all the really beautiful weather we have been having here, I thought it would be a nice one.

May Week 8: Lullaby Lodge
Yarn usage: Oddments of cotton
Time: Less than an hour
Ability: Simple pattern using basic stitches but teaches the helix technique, (can also be made in a single colour for beginners)

Other notes: A nice quick and easy pattern great for using up those cotton scraps and your kids will love these…

Week 9

"Happy weekend, dear fellow crochet-addicts!
I'm Marjan Hoebeke-Pfaff from Atelier Marie-Lucienne and I have the privilege of hosting this week's Cabin Fever CAL initiated by the wonderful Catherine Lullaby Lodge.
Those of you who have received (and read) my newsletter will know that I have been thinking a lot about time lately. About how fast time goes by and how quickly we forget things.
This is one of the reasons why our Cabin Fever project for this week is an oldie, but goldie. I designed the Lucienne's Summer Mandala back in 2015! It is one of my favourites and as the mandalas are so versatile, I thought it a good idea to revisit it!"
Week & Theme: Lucky Dip
Yarn usage: Yarn weight “fine” (50g = 125m; I used Schachenmayr Catania) approx 31m
Time: 1 hour
Ability: confident crocheter( Knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques is assumed)
Other notes: Lucienne’s Summer Mandala can be crocheted in any yarn weight you like (using the corresponding hook) and is very versatile, which I will show you these next few days!

Week 10

"Hi everyone! I'm Shannon from The Loophole Fox. I've crocheted since I was around 12 years old, taught myself from a crochet book and haven't put a hook down since. I realized around a year and a half ago that I never truly followed someone else's pattern and decided to design my own and share them with the world."

Week & Theme: June Week 1 - Kitchen and Bath

This spa set includes six different patterns you can mix and match, create multiples of, make one here and one there. This set includes a wash cloth, headband, makeup wipes, textured face founds, a mini bath pouf and under eye half circles.

Yarn usage: Approximately 1 3/4 skeins (3oz cotton skein) for an entire set as written in the pattern. Varies depending on if you mix and match, make multiples, etc.

Time: Varies from a half hour to approximately 1.5-2 hours depending on which item. For example, the makeup wipes take approximately a half hour versus the pouf or washcloth that can take up to 1.5-2 hours.

Ability: Beginner to advanced-beginner.

Other notes: For the washcloth, the pattern calls for a wooden ring. If you prefer to not have the wooden ring, you can continue decreasing to finish the square.

Check back here for more details as they are posted...

I do hope you will join in and please stay safe...

  1. This is the perfect time to make some crochet projects. A lovely idea to have a weekly theme! I recently put up one of your patterns on my blog here:
You need to scroll down to the end!

    1. How lovely Sandra, your finished granny square blanket is beautiful. I think many people are finding they have more time for crochet. I myself am having less time as my son is now at home. He does most of his school work online and seams to finish each subject long before the allocated time is over, meaning I need to keep him occupied for the rest of the day. We have been doing lots of baking and cooking together to fill the time. Stay safe Sandra.
