Unboxing and Review: Cookie Box Crochet Kit

Unboxing the Kit

Upon opening the box, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the materials. Here's what you get:

  • Yarn: A large ball of green tube yarn and smaller skeins in gingerbread brown and beige. The yarn is a mix of 68% cotton and 32% nylon, giving it a nice feel and sturdiness.  There is more than enough yarn to make Hugo and have some left over for future practice.
  • Hook: A sturdy 3mm crochet hook.
  • Extras: A sticker, a darning needle, three locking stitch markers, green safety eyes, sparkly washers for the eyes, and a bag of toy stuffing.

The kit also includes a link to a video tutorial and a PDF pattern, which is great for those who prefer written instructions.  The video tutorials also cater for both left and right handed crocheters.



First Impressions

The yarn is of excellent quality, far exceeding my expectations. It's soft and sturdy, perfect for amigurumi projects. The hook feels durable, and the additional tools provided are all you need to complete the project.  



Starting the Amigurumi

The pattern in the kit that I received is for Hugo, an adorable little turtle. Here's a quick rundown of the process:

  1. Magic Ring: Start with a magic ring and single crochet around.
  2. Single Crochet: The pattern mainly uses single crochet stitches, with increases and decreases for shaping.
  3. Assembly: The kit includes everything needed for assembly, including toy stuffing and safety eyes.

I began crocheting Hugo during a live stream, and while I usually don’t do a lot of amigurumi, I found the pattern straightforward and the yarn easy to work with. Temperature Blankets - A guide to making them & free crochet pattern...

Inspired by all the amazing photos on Instagram and Pinterest, I had wanted to make a temperature blanket for some time.  So I thought I would share my blanket progress with you, including lots of tips and tricks.  If you would like to make one too, this is how you do it.   The idea is simple.  Every day, use the local weather stations highest temperature of that day, to choose your crochet colours.  This will result in a gorgeous blanket by the end of the year.  You just allocate which colours you will use for a range of temperatures and crochet 1 row each day corresponding to that days temperature.  I used Stylecraft Special DK for my blanket, but you can use any yarn you like.  Depending on where you live you may need to adjust how many colours and what temperatures you will need...
