How to Crochet a Heart Granny Square Baby Blanket

crochet baby blanket with heart granny squares

Free Crochet Pattern!

If you love granny squares and hearts, you’re going to be just as obsessed with this project as I am! The Granny Sweetheart Baby Blanket combines super cute heart motifs with classic granny stitch to create the ultimate cosy baby blanket — and yes, it's every bit as adorable as it sounds.

Why I Love This Pattern

I had so much fun designing this one. It's the perfect blend of cute and classic, with a lovely flow between the heart squares and the soft granny stitch rows.

It’s a lovely make for baby showers or as a special handmade gift. You could even switch up the colours to make a more gender-neutral version or one that fits your nursery theme.

Balls of Drops Karisma wool yarn in colours pink and white

What Yarn I Used

For this blanket, I used Drops Karisma, a super soft and durable DK weight yarn made from 100% superwash wool. The colours I chose were Desert Rose (a gentle dusty pink) and Off White — a warm and timeless combo.

But you can absolutely switch this out for any soft DK yarn. Some great alternatives include:

Video Tutorial Included

I’ve also included a step-by-step video tutorial, so if you’re more of a visual learner, you can watch along and crochet with me! You’ll find the video linked directly in the pattern — pause, rewind, and rewatch as much as you need.

Is This Pattern Beginner Friendly?

Yes! If you’re confident with basic stitches and comfortable working in the round, you’ll find this pattern super doable. The heart motif uses granny stitch with some simple colour changes, and the blanket is worked in straightforward rows once your squares are joined.

If you’ve made granny squares before, you’ll pick this up in no time!
