My Crochet Companions - Best Entertainment While Crocheting
Crocheting has always been my go-to creative outlet for many years now, offering a unique blend of relaxation and productivity. And what makes it even better? Pairing my stitching with a captivating audiobook, an engaging podcast, or a comforting TV show.
Why Crocheting is So Good for You
Whether I'm on my balcony watching the world go by, cosied up on my sofa, or outdoors soaking up some vitamin D, the act of crocheting itself is incredibly therapeutic.
Boosts Mood and Reduces Stress: That repetitive motion of crocheting helps quiet a busy mind, chills out anxiety, and just makes you feel calmer. When you're focusing on those stitches, it's easy to get totally absorbed, pushing worries aside and leaving you feeling super relaxed and happy.

Enhances Creativity and Problem-Solving: Choosing colours, designing patterns, encourages creative thinking and gentle problem-solving, which can be surprisingly refreshing and lead to a real sense of accomplishment.
Mindfulness and Connection: Crocheting invites a peaceful kind of mindfulness. Whether I'm feeling the breeze outdoors or simply enjoying the quiet of my home, it helps me feel more connected and present, making each stitch more meaningful.
What I Love to Listen to and Watch While Crocheting
My entertainment choices vary depending on my mood and where I'm crocheting. The beauty of it is, there's always something perfect to accompany my crochet!
Summer Bliss: Outdoor Listening
When the weather is beautiful, I love nothing more than taking my crochet projects onto my balcony or finding a quiet spot by the river. In these moments, audio entertainment is my top pick.
Audiobooks: My Summer Favourite
One of my absolute favourite ways to spend time crocheting outdoors is listening to audiobooks. I find it so relaxing to combine my love of storytelling with my crocheting. I'm currently engrossed in Terry Brooks' Running with the Demon, which is fantastic for diving into an adventurous world. As a big fan of fantasy and sci-fi, audiobooks are perfect for immersing myself in other realms while my hands are busy.
My Audible library is full of favourites that I revisit often, including:
All the Harry Potter books
All the Chronicles of Narnia
Mere Christianity (and other profound listens)
Audible has a fantastic selection, and since I'm an Amazon affiliate, I’m happy to recommend it if you want to try it out. The benefits of audiobooks are huge: they let you "read" while doing other activities, they can help improve focus, and they open up a world of stories to enjoy, no matter how busy your hands are. Podcasts That Pair Perfectly with Crochet
Podcasts are another great option if you want something informative or light-hearted in the background. Here are some of my top picks:
Elsie Rose Crochet – great tips and creative inspiration for makers.
Cherrie Heart – a quite moment with peaceful crochet.
Heart Hook Home – crochet discussion, yarn unboxings, organization, and more.
Cosy Comfort: Indoor Watching (and More!)
When the weather isn't so good, or I simply fancy a cosy evening in, my streaming services become my best friends. There’s something special about watching a TV show that feels like comfort food while you crochet.
Shows I Love to Watch While Crocheting
One of my favourites is Gilmore Girls. I just watched through all of this with my son, and even though he protested at first about watching a "girly" show, he actually loved it.
I also adore a good period drama, so Downton Abbey is a firm favourite. If you love the grand settings, intricate plots, and fascinating historical details of Downton, you might also enjoy:
The Crown – Delve into the lives of the British Royal Family.
Victoria – Follow the early life and reign of Queen Victoria.
Poldark – A sweeping romance and drama set in 18th-century Cornwall.
To enjoy these and many more, I highly recommend Amazon Prime Video. It's what I subscribe to for endless entertainment, quick delivery, and other great perks. I love the variety of shows and movies available, and it's perfect for those long crochet sessions indoors. You can learn more about joining Amazon Prime here!
Other Popular Things to Do While Crocheting Indoors
Beyond streaming, my indoor crochet sessions are often accompanied by:
Listening to Christian Worship Music on Spotify — I love tuning into worship playlists while crocheting.
Catching Up on YouTube Tutorials — Sometimes, I'll watch crochet tutorials for new techniques or inspiration.
Creating Your Perfect Crochet Session
Whether you're indoors or out, setting the stage for a great crochet session is simple:
Find a comfy spot with good lighting – natural or artificial.
Bring a portable speaker or headphones for your podcasts, audiobooks, or music, or settle in front of your TV.
Keep your yarn and hook in a small basket or tote for easy access.
Grab your favourite snacks & drinks – I love a nice cup of tea and maybe a biscuit (cookie), or occasionally a nice glass of red wine.
Final Thoughts
Crocheting is a wonderful way to combine creativity, relaxation, and personal well-being. Whether you’re listening to a podcast, watching a beloved TV show like Gilmore Girls or Downton Abbey on Amazon Prime Video, or enjoying an audiobook like Running with the Demon on Audible, entertainment truly makes the whole experience so much cosier.
If you haven’t tried pairing your crafting with your favourite content, I highly recommend giving it a go. And if you want to explore audiobooks and streaming, check out Audible and Amazon Prime for great selections that will engage your mind, while your hands are busy crocheting...
I hope you found some insight into my cosy crochet life and maybe found some inspiration for your next listen.
