Peppermint Striped Bookmark

Hey everyone! If you're looking for a quick and easy festive gift for a book lover, then look no further than my peppermint striped bookmark. It's so quick and easy to make and perfect for the holiday season. Let's take a look at how to make a festive crochet bookmark that's both fun and functional.

What You'll Need:

  • 2.5 mm crochet hook
  • Fingering or 4-ply yarn (if you're in the UK)
  • Scissors
  • Darning needle

I'm going to show you how to make a three-color bookmark today, but if you prefer, the two-colour version is worked in exactly the same way, just with two rows of each colour. For the three-color bookmark, we'll be changing colours every row.

Steps to Make Your Festive Crochet Bookmark (video transcript)

Starting Off:

  1. Put a slip knot on your hook.
  2. Chain a multiple of 2 + 1. Just keep counting in twos until your chain is as long as you want your bookmark to be. Keep going until you reach your desired length, then add one extra stitch to your chain.

Creating the Foundation:

  1. Put a single crochet into the third chain from your hook.
  2. Chain one, skip the next stitch, and put a single crochet into the following stitch. Repeat this all the way across.

Changing Colours:

  1. When you reach the last stitch, start a single crochet but finish it with your next colour.
  2. Chain two and turn your work.
  3. Work single crochets into the chain spaces from the previous row, chaining one between each single crochet. Repeat this process across the row.

Repeating the Pattern:

  1. At the end of each row, switch to your next colour.
  2. Chain two, turn, and repeat the previous row's pattern: single crochet in each chain space, chain one, and switch colours at the end of the row.
  3. Continue this pattern until you have a total of 10 rows.

Finishing Touches:

  1. For the fringing, cut pieces of yarn twice as long as you want your fringe to be.
  2. Attach the fringe by pulling the yarn through the ends of the bookmark and tying it off with a Larks Head knot. Match the fringe colours to your stripe colours for a cohesive look.

And there you have it, a lovely festive crochet bookmark! Whether you're using two colours or three, this pattern is quick, easy, and perfect for the holiday season.
