Yarn: Aran or worsted weight yarn
Gauge: Not essential for this project
Other Items: Yarn needle and scissors
Finished Size: Sunflower Coasters are approximately 5.5 inches when made with aran weight yarn and 4.00 mm hook

dc: double crochet (treble crochet)

ch: chain
sl st: slip stitch
st(s): stitch(es)
cl: cluster

ps: puff stitch

Instructions

Pattern Notes

Read the pattern all the way through before starting
Video tutorials are provided to guide you through each step. Please refer to them if you are unsure of anything.
Finished crochet pieces will benefit greatly from blocking.
If you are starting a new colour, join in any ch sp. If continuing with the same colour, sl st to next ch sp.

Special Stitches

Beginning cluster: ch2, [yo, insert hook into st and pull up a loop, yo pull through 2 loops] 3 times, yo pull through all loops
Cluster: [yo, insert hook in st and pull up a loop, yo pull through 2 loops] 4 times, yo pull through all loops
Puff stitch: [yo, insert hook in st and pull up a long loop] 4 times, yo pull through all loops


With 4.00 mm hook, ch4 and join with sl st to form ring.

Round 1: Ch1 (does not count as st), 12 sc into ring, join to 1st sc (12 sc)

Round 2: Ch1, sc in same st, [ch3, sc in next st] repeat around, ending with ch3, sl st to 1st sc (12 sc, 12 ch3 sps)

Round 3: Sl st into next sp, ch1, sc in same sp, [ch3, sc in next sp] repeat around ending with ch3, sl st to 1st sc (12 sc, 12 ch3 sps)

Round 4: Pull up a loop to the height required for a puff stitch, [ps in same sp, ch1] twice, [ps, ch1, ps, ch1 in next sp] repeat in each sp around, sl st to top 1st ps (24 ps)

Round 5: Bcl in same sp, ch1, [cl in next sp, ch2] repeat around, sl st to top bcl (24 cl)

Fasten off and join new colour to any sp.

With new colour and sl knot on hook.

Round 6 Join with sc in any sp, 2sc in same sp, [3sc] in each sp around, join with sl st to 1st sc (or use invisible join, see video on page 6)

Fasten off and weave in ends.
