Farmhouse Prairie Ear Warmer Free Pattern

If you love quick, cosy makes that you can whip up in an hour, you’re going to love the Farmhouse Prairie Ear Warmer. It’s a super cosy, rustic-style accessory that’s perfect for keeping your ears nice and toasty!

This design features my brand new stitch – the Farmhouse Prairie Stitch – a variation I developed from the classic Prairie Stitch. It gives the fabric a beautifully textured, farmhouse feel while keeping it soft and stretchy. Paired with a simple front twist, that always frames the face so well.

Materials

  • Yarn: Drops Andes (65% wool, 35% alpaca) – or any super bulky substitute

  • Hook: 9.00 mm crochet hook

  • Other items: Yarn needle and scissors

This pattern works beautifully with Drops Andes, which is incredible soft and warm, and comes in plenty of different colours.

Size Chart

The size chart shows the finished measurements of the ear warmer and the total yarn needed for each size. Four sizes are included: toddler, child, tween, and adult. This pattern is designed with up to 1 inch (2.5 cm) of negative ease.

How to choose your size:

  • Measure around the fullest part of your head (just above your eyebrows and ears).

  • Select the size with a finished measurement about 1 inch (2.5 cm) smaller than your actual head measurement. This will give a snug, comfortable fit without being too tight.

Forming the twist

  • Fold each short end in half, right sides together.
  • Slot the folded ends together so the layers interlock.
  • Sew through all 4 layers securely to hold the twist.
  • Turn right side out — your twist will now be on the outside.
