How to Crochet a Granny Square Bandana Free Pattern & Video Tutorial

About the Yarn
The bandana is made using Stylecraft Batik Elements Swirl DK, a beautiful yarn that blends wool and acrylic with beautiful colour transitions. It pairs perfectly with Stylecraft Bellissima DK or King Cole Cherished DK — both smooth, 100% acrylic yarns with lovely stitch definition and a subtle sheen.

The pattern includes sizes for both adults and children, and you’ll only need one ball of each colour for any size when using the recommended yarn.

Pattern Notes
- Read the pattern all the way through before starting.
- A video tutorial is provided to guide you through each step, please refer to this if you are unsure of anything.
- Alternate between MC and CC for each round of granny squares.
- Chain 3 at start of round counts as dc throughout, you may use chainless stitches if you prefer.
- Tips for working over tails and carrying yarn as you go are included in the video tutorial.
Granny Square (make 6)
Size child, start with mc and size adult start with cc.
Ch4 and join to form ring.
Round 1 Ch3, 2dc into ring, [ch2, 3dc into ring] 3 times, ch2, join with sl st to top ch3, sl st in next 2 sts, changing colour by finishing last sl st with new colour, sl st in corner sp.
Carry old yarn up to next row height, in the ch3 at start of next row, as follows ch1, lay old yarn over hook, ch2. See video.
Round 2 [Ch3, 2dc, ch2, 3dc] in same sp, in next and every sp [3dc, ch2, 3dc], join with sl st to top ch3, sl st in next 2 sts, changing colour by finishing last sl st with new colour, sl st in corner sp.
Round 3 [Ch3, 2dc, ch2, 3dc] in same sp, 3dc in each sp across sides, [3dc, ch2, 3dc] in each corner sp, join with sl st to top ch3, sl st in next 2 sts, changing colour by finishing last sl st with new colour, sl st in corner sp.
Repeat round 3 required number of times, 0 [1].
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Blocking
We recommend tension blocking squares before joining, or blocking the finished bandana.
Joining Squares
Sew squares together in rows along one direction first and then across the other direction. We used mattress stitch to join our squares, but you may use your preferred method.
Finishing & Ties
With point of triangle closest to you and long edge farthest, join mc to right triangle corner and ch 41 [51].

Working in back bumps, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across.

Sc in ch2 sp at triangle corner and in each st across ending with sc in ch2 sp.

Ch 41 [51], working in back bumps, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across ending with sc in ch2 sp.

Continue around bandana with sc in each st (ch sps from granny square corners count as 1) across sides and [sc, ch1, sc] in corner sp, ending with sc in last ch2 sp, join to 1st tie with sl st.
