Yarnsmiths Freespirit Aran Yarn Haul & Review
There’s something so exciting about a new yarn haul — I love grabbing a few balls of yarn just to see what they’re like in real life. You never quite know what you’re going to get when shopping online, and that first feel of the fibre, seeing the colours up close, and getting your hook in… it’s just a little thrill every time.
I picked up Yarnsmiths Freespirit Aran in a few shades, and it’s soft, squishy, and just so pretty. The yarn is a beautiful self-striping marled yarn, with two colours twisted together that gradually change as you crochet. The colourways are gorgeous and the gradual changes make even simple stitches look really special, exactly the kind of yarn that makes you want to crochet for hours, just to see how the colours work up.

How It Crochets Up
This yarn has a really soft handle, which makes it great for all kinds of projects. It doesn’t split easily, feels lovely on the hook, and it’s easy to work with. I really enjoyed the feel of it while crocheting and I didn't notice any squeaking that you sometimes get with acrylic yarns.
What I Think It’s Best For
This yarn is really versatile and works well for a wide range of crochet projects. Its softness, squishiness, and gorgeous colourways make it a joy to work with, whether you’re making something decorative or something wearable. Here are some of the projects I think it’s especially good for:
Jumpers or cardigans
Granny's Tipple Pocket Shawl
I used this yarn to make Granny’s Tipple Pocket Shawl, and it was perfect for that pattern. The soft, squishy yarn really shows off the stitches and gives the shawl a lovely cosy feel.
