Crochet dishcloths are one of my favourite quick and easy crochet projects because they are practical, reusable, and it's so satisfying to finish a project so quickly.

Unlike disposable cloths and sponges, handmade crochet dishcloths can be washed and reused again and again, making them a more eco-friendly choice for everyday cleaning. 100% cotton yarn is naturally absorbent and hard-wearing, which makes it ideal for washing dishes, wiping down worktops, and general kitchen cleaning.

They are also brilliant for using up leftover yarn, trying new crochet stitch patterns, and making thoughtful gifts. A handmade crochet dishcloth tied with a ribbon or paired with a favourite soap or kitchen towel makes such a lovely present.

About the Yarn

For this Strawberry Stitch Dishcloth Crochet Pattern, I used Yarn and Colours Epic, which is a 100% cotton aran weight yarn. Cotton is always my first choice for crochet dishcloths because it is absorbent, durable, washable, and softens beautifully with use.

I used Old Pink for the strawberries and Dew for the hull. The combination creates a lovely fresh strawberry-inspired look that feels perfect for spring and summer, but this pattern would look beautiful in so many different colour combinations.

• Yarn and Colours Epic (100% cotton, aran weight)

  • Old Pink

  • Dew

• 5 mm crochet hook

• Yarn needle

• Scissors

Crochet Abbreviations

• bo – bobble

• ch – chain

• dc – double crochet

• sc – single crochet

• sc5tog – single crochet 5 stitches together

• sl st – slip stitch

• skip – skip stitch

• [ ] - repeat instruction in brackets 

Pattern Notes

• The Strawberry Stitch Dishcloth is worked in rows using the strawberry stitch crochet pattern, which combines bobble stitches and sc5tog decreases to create the textured strawberry effect.
• When working the sc5tog pull the stitches up slightly similar to how you would make a puff stitch.
• Change colours at the end of every row unless otherwise stated and carry unused yarn across your work,  crocheting over this as you go.
• Chain 1 at the start of a row does not count as a stitch in this pattern.

Bobble - 5dc in same st

Strawberry Fields Dishcloth Pattern

With red ch28 (for a 9-10 in dishcloth) or a multiple of 4

Row 1  (right side), sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Turn. (27sc)

Row 2 ch1, sc in next 3 sts, [bo in next st, sc in next 3 sts] repeat across. Turn. (6bo, 21sc)

Row 3 with green ch1, sc in next 3 sts, [sc5tog, ch1, sl st in last st worked, sc in next 3 sts] repeat across. Turn. (27sc, 6ch1, 6sl st)

Row 4 with red ch1, sc in 1st st, bo in next st, sc in next st, [sk1, sc in ch1 (on top of the bobble), sk1, sc in next st, bo in next st, sc in next st] repeat across. Turn. (7bo, 20sc)

Row 5 with green ch1, sc in 1st st, [sc5tog, ch1, sl st in last st worked, sc in next 3 sts] repeat across ending with sc5tog, ch1, sl st in last st worked, sc in last st. Turn. (27sc, 7ch1, 7sl st)

Row 6 with red, ch1 sc in 1st st, sk1, sc in ch1, sk1, sc in next st, [bo in next st, sc in next st, sk1, sc in ch1, sk1, sc in next st] repeat around. Turn. (6bo, 21sc)

Repeat rows 3-6 until cloth is as long as it is wide or desired length, ending with a green row.

Final row with red ch1, sc in each st across skipping the sts either side of the ch1 on top of the berry and instead working into the ch1. Turn, do not fasten off. (27sc)

Slip Stitch Edging

Round 1 ch1, sc in each st across top of cloth, at the corner ch1, then sc 27 sts evenly down the side of cloth, at corner ch1, then working across the foundation edge of cloth sc in each st across, at corner ch1, then sc 27sts evenly up the other side of cloth, at corner ch1 and join with sl st to 1st st. Do not turn. (108sc, 4ch1)

Round 2 ch1, sl st in 1st st, [ch1, sl st in next st] repeat around in every st and ch1 sp, join with sl st to 1st st. Fasten off and weave in ends.
