Stylecraft Serene Aran Review — Is This Wool Blend Aran Yarn Worth It?

3 balls of stylecraft serene aran in beautiful colours presented with lavender flowers

I just love it when I hear that knock at the door when I'm expecting a yarn delivery.  I often buy a few balls of yarn I've never tried before along with the yarn I have ordered for a new design. I like to see and feel the yarn before I decide on a big project.

I recently tried Stylecraft Serene Aran and it’s such a lovely yarn to work with — especially if you want a soft wool blend aran yarn that’s practical and easy to care for. If you’re looking for a good aran yarn for crochet, this one is definitely worth a look.

Soft, Muted Colours – Perfect for Modern Crochet Projects

One of the standout features of Stylecraft Serene Aran is its soft, muted colour palette. The shades have a gentle mottled effect, which looks beautiful when crocheted up.

If you love calm, tranquil shades, I recommend you give it a try. The colours work beautifully together, making it easy to create a cohesive look for blankets, stripes, and granny squares. Sadly there are only 6 colours to choose from, which can be a bit limiting.

How It Feels to Work With

This yarn is soft, smooth, and easy to crochet with:

  • Soft to the touch (thanks to the wool blend)

  • Smooth texture

  • Good stitch definition

  • Comfortable to work with and glides on the hook

  • Not splitty

Compared to standard acrylic yarns, it feels softer and more comfortable, which is why so many crocheters choose it for wearable projects. The wool content gives it a slightly warmer, more natural feel while still being easy to care for.

What Is Stylecraft Serene Aran Best For?

This yarn is versatile and practical, making it ideal for:

Because it’s machine washable and a wool blend, it’s perfect for everyday items when you want something cosy and comfortable.

What Other Crocheters Say About Stylecraft Serene Aran

Looking at reviews online, this yarn gets consistently positive feedback:

  • Many people love how soft it feels compared to standard acrylic yarns

  • The wool blend adds warmth and comfort

  • The muted colours are a big selling point

  • The mottled effect adds interest to simple stitches

It’s often recommended for garments and baby items, where softness really matters.

Is Stylecraft Serene Aran Good Value for Money?

For a wool blend aran yarn in the UK, this is very good value for money. You get a generous 100g ball with good yardage, making it ideal for larger crochet projects like blankets and jumpers.

It sits nicely between budget acrylic yarns and more expensive wool yarns, giving you a great balance of price, softness, and practicality, but most of all it looks really pretty when crocheted up.

Final Thoughts: Is Stylecraft Serene Aran Worth Buying?

If you’re looking for:

  • A soft aran yarn for crochet

  • An affordable wool blend yarn UK (many suppliers ship worldwide also)

  • An easy-care yarn for garments and blankets

  • A yarn with a modern, muted colour palette

then Stylecraft Serene Aran is definitely worth trying.

It’s soft, reliable, and easy to work with, making it a great everyday yarn. The wool blend gives it that extra comfort without making it high maintenance — which is exactly what most crocheters want.

If you’ve been wanting to try a wool blend yarn but don’t want the cost or care of pure wool, this is a really good place to start.
