Huge Colour Range – Perfect for Crochet Colour Work

One of the biggest reasons I love this yarn is the colour choice. There are whopping 200 shades available, from soft neutrals like cream and duck egg to brighter options like tropical teal and pomegranate.

Because this yarn is solid colour rather than variegated, it’s ideal if you like planning your own palettes and creating colour work blankets, stripes, granny squares and other projects where colour combinations make the design. They have so many shades that you can easily make colour gradients too and your stitches really show up clearly — which is great for texture and pattern detail.

How It Feels to Work With

This is a classic cotton Aran — firm, smooth, and reliable:

  • Excellent stitch definition

  • Very little stretch

  • Comfortable on the hook

  • Not too splitty

The yarn crochets up nicely creating a beautiful fabric. Because it’s cotton, it doesn’t have the bounce of acrylic or wool, but that also means it holds its shape well, stays crisp and has beautiful drape.

What It’s Best Suited For

This yarn is versatile, practical and breathable — great for:

Being machine washable and 100% cotton makes it particularly good for garments and items that see daily use. I love to use it for dishcloths and small giftable items.  Natural yarns always look more expensive than acrylics I think, and cotton is a great choice that doesn't break the bank.

Excellent Value for Money

At around £2.00 a ball, this is one of the most affordable 100% cotton Aran yarns you’ll find in the UK — especially considering the colour range available. If you shop when colours are on sale, you can often pay even less, which makes it brilliant value for larger projects like blankets or garments.

Final Thoughts: Is It Worth Buying?

If you’re searching for:

  • Best cotton Aran yarn UK
  • 100% cotton yarn for crochet
  • Affordable cotton yarn with many colours
  • Reliable yarn for colour work blankets

then Yarnsmiths Cotton Aran is absolutely worth trying.

It’s smooth, dependable, easy to work with, and gives a neat, structured finish — all for a very reasonable price. For me, this has become a go-to yarn in my stash that I reach for when I want defined stitches and lots of colour options without a high cost.  If you have never tried cotton yarn before I recommend you give it a go.
