Bobble Stitch Crochet Tutorial – Easy Textured Crochet Stitch for Blankets & Baby Projects
If you’re looking for a textured crochet stitch that really stands out, the Bobble Stitch is a fun one to learn. This Bobble Stitch crochet tutorial shows you exactly how to create these raised bobbles that pop beautifully from your crochet fabric.
The Bobble Stitch is popular because it creates bold texture while still using basic crochet stitches. Even though the finished fabric looks detailed, the stitch itself is simple once you understand how the bobble is formed.
The bobbles are worked from the wrong side of your work, which naturally pushes them forward onto the front of the fabric. This creates a lovely raised texture that works beautifully for crochet blankets, baby blankets, garments, and home décor projects.

What to Make With the Bobble Stitch
Because the Bobble Stitch creates bold textured fabric, it works especially well in projects where the stitch pattern is the main feature:
Crochet cardigans and jumpers
Cushion covers
Even simple rows of bobbles can transform a basic project into something visually striking. For baby blankets, the Bobble Stitch adds both softness and texture, making them extra special.
Materials & Yarn Information
To crochet the Bobble Stitch, you’ll need:
Yarn in any weight
Crochet hook in the size recommended on your yarn ball band
For the sample shown in this tutorial, I used:
Aran weight yarn
5 mm crochet hook
Because bobble stitches use several stitches worked into the same space, they can be a bit of a yarn eater. This is something to keep in mind if you plan a larger project like a blanket.
Pro Tip
You can also adjust the spacing of bobbles by adding extra rows of single crochet between them. This creates a lighter fabric and reduces yarn usage while keeping the raised texture intact.

Bobble Stitch Written Pattern
Abbreviations (US Terms)
ch – chainsc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
st(s) – stitch(es)
Pattern Notes
Ch1 at the start of a row does not count as a stitch
Work a multiple of 2 for stitch foundation
Special stitches: Bobble stitch
The bobble stitch is worked as a 5 double crochet cluster in the same stitch from the back of the work:
Yarn over, insert hook into the stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops.
Repeat four more times in the same stitch.
You will now have multiple loops on your hook.
Yarn over and pull through all loops to complete the bobble.
Placing single crochet stitches before and after the cluster pulls the stitch slightly down and pushes the bobble forward on the front of the fabric.
Chain an even number of stitches to your desired width.
Repeat rows 2–3 until desired length.
Final Thoughts
The Bobble Stitch is a fantastic stitch if you want to add texture and dimension to your crochet projects. While it may look complicated, it’s built from a simple two-row repeat that becomes easy to memorise after a few rows.
This stitch works beautifully for blankets, scarves, baby projects, and home decor, making it a versatile addition to your crochet stitch library.
