How to Make Tassels - A tutorial by Lullaby Lodge...

Image
New video tutorial available, scroll down for video... Hello everyone, I have another tutorial to share with you today, we will be learning how to make tassels.  Tassels are so versatile and can be used for many craft projects not just knitting and crochet.  They add great finishing touches to scarves and shawls, can be used to decorate a whole host of clothing and homewares and made with some sparkly yarn make great Christmas decorations. Tassels Materials   Yarn   Darning needle Scissors DVD case, card or tassel maker I made these tassels by wrapping yarn around a DVD or game case, you could also use a Clover tassel maker.  This makes nice big poofy tassels, suitable for decorating scarves or shawls.  If you don't have a DVD case you can cut a piece of card to the size you would like your tassels. Start by wrapping your yarn around the case or card.  The amount of wraps you do will determine how thick your tassels will be.  I made 100 wraps for thes

We are very fast approaching autumn and it's time to start thinking about making something to keep us cosy when the weather starts to get colder.  I want to share with you my pattern for this Shetland Lace scarf.  This pattern was previously only available to buy in my online stores and is now available for you here, free on my blog. The Shetland Lace Scarf is worked back and forth on straight needles and is comprised of a variation of the Old Shale stitch.  The lace is created by simple increases and decreases on a 4-row repeat, making this a perfect introduction to lace knitting.  An adventurous beginner could easily master this pattern.  The yarn cake creates a lovely colour block effect, with no need to keep changing colours.  The yarn does all the work for you.   There is also a matching hat pattern which you can find here... Stash Busting - The Ron Weasley Blanket

Image
Over the Christmas holidays we always binge watch the Harry Potter Movies.  Whilst watching Prisoner of Azkaban I happened to notice a gorgeous, scrappy, hand knitted blanket on Ron Weasley's bed (Molly Weasley I do so love all your makes).  I instantly knew this would make an awesome stash busting project and I had to start straight away. A quick search found a brilliant guide by Jackie Wierzbick on her blog  Penguineer's Purls  and you can find the pattern page  here...   She has painstakingly collected lots of photos of the blanket and produced them into a layout grid and a guide for each knitted block.  The squares are all knitted in garter stitch (which I love especially for "TV" knitting).  There is also a crochet version which you can find  here... So off I went to rummage through my stash.  I have a great deal of those huge 400g balls of aran yarn I bought "cos it's cheap" that never got used (because it wasn't soft e

Pattern Testing - Knitted One Ball Shawl

Image
Hello lovely people!  This is just a quick post to share with you a new pattern that I have been working on.  It is designed for beginner knitters and uses the popular yarn cakes which come in a variety of gorgeous colours.  The shawl is knitted in garter stitch making is very easy for newbie knitters.  It features an asymmetric shape with cute sewn in tassels and a shawlette style.  A larger shawl may be maid simply by using 2 balls instead of 1.  The shawl can be worn in many different ways, around the shoulders or as a cowl.  Caron Cakes is recommended for this project, however any similar yarn may be substituted... The pattern is currently undergoing testing over on my Facebook page and if you are interested, I have space for a couple more testers.  Testing is very easy, you simply follow the pattern and report back with your views on ease of understanding, clarity etc and check for any mistakes.  As compensation for all your hard work you will be gifted a finished copy
