Reindeer Trail at Black Park Country Park

Black Park Country Park in Wexham boasts over 10 miles of wood and heath land, tracks and trails. Best of all, at this time of year is the delightful reindeer trail, situated along the lake path. The lake was partially frozen from the cold spell we have had and little T enjoyed watching the birds skating across the ice. He made a great game of trying to break through it with pebbles...

As we walked around the lake we came upon all of Santa's 8 reindeer one by one. Reminding me of Clement C Moore's poem...

"More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

And he whistled and shouted and called them by name:

Now Dasher! Now Dancer! Now Prancer and Vixen.

On Comet! On Cupid! On Donner and Blitzen!"

But where is Santa's favourite reindeer? We hadn't seen him yet... We stopped for a while at the adventure playground until little T had played to his hearts content and then popped into the cafe for a well deserved bacon sandwich and cup of tea to warm us up.

After a little break we continued our walk around the lake, finally finding the one reindeer we were still looking for. There he stood in all his glory with holly antlers and a big squishy red nose. Rudolph!

All in all a lovely morning spent in the fresh air enjoying the country side. If you live nearby and have little ones be sure to visit and see how many of Santa's reindeer you can spot.

If you are looking for an edging that is both perfectly pretty and super simple, then this is the one for you. It's great for those blankets that you want something a little less girly around the edge. This is one of my favourite go to borders and is so, so simple, making it perfect for beginners. Abbreviations US Terms dc - double crochet sc - single crochet sl st - slip stitch This border requires an even number of stitches around your blanket. If you have an odd number, simple increase or decrease 1 stitch on the first round. Or if you are like me just fudge it (it's only 1 stitch). Attach your yarn anywhere on you blanket with a sc Work sc's into every stitch along each side and 3 sc into each corner stitch continue in this way around your blanket and join with a sl st to the first sc Now turn your blanket over and work from the wrong side, dc in the first stitch and... sl st in the next stitch Repeat these

A pretty shell border is the perfect way to finish off a crochet project. You can use it to edge a blanket, a hat or even the cuff of a sleeve... Simple Shell Edging Abbreviations US Terms dc - double crochet sc - single crochet sl st - slip stitch ch - chain sp - space Adding your border to a granny square... Starting on any odd numbered round, join your yarn with a sc, 3 spaces to the right of any corner, then work 7 dc into the next sp... ...and sc in the next sp. Now working into the corner sp. Into this and every corner make 9 dc... ...and then a sc into the next sp. Continue in this fashion around your granny square until you get back to the beginning. Hello everyone, it's time for part 2 of our mini Mother's Day pattern series and this week we have the mitts to match the boot cuffs we made in part 1. It's another granny square design (you know how I love granny squares) and they are quick and easy to make. The mitts will fit an average adults hands but can be adjusted for bigger or smaller hands by going up or down a hook size. You could even use less rounds for your squares to make them the right size for a child. The pattern is easily adjustable. I have used Stylecraft Batik Elements in shade Magnesium and Stylecraft Batik in Cream to make my mitts, but you could use any colours you wish or make in just one colour. Who doesn't love a granny stripe? The granny stripe blanket is in my opinion, the most quintessential crochet blanket of them all... They have been around for decades and the basic pattern is so easy to master. You only need to know a few basic stitches and in no time at all, you can create a gorgeous, squishy, stripy, colourful blanket, perfect for snuggles on the sofa. The Granny Flower Square is probably the most simple flower motif out there and can be used to make almost anything your imagination can think of. Of course my most favourite thing to make has always been blankets and I have made many in the past using this motif. The Granny Flower Square This pattern now has a video tutorial (new for 2021)... For those of you who know me well, you will know that making blankets is my most favourite thing and adding the border to a finished blanket is the best part of blanket making. Don't get me wrong I love the whole process. Choosing the design, colours, type of yarn, spending time all snuggly and warm with a growing blanket on your lap is pure bliss to me, but those final few rounds that add the finishing touch to your masterpiece, is just the cherry on the cake. I love that feeling of completion and achievement you get when you finish a blanket. As you know all through January we have been on a stash busting marathon, making a new granny square each day. Well, all the squares are finished and joined and it's now time for the border. I wanted something pretty but simple to go with all the floral themed squares.
