Busy, busy, busy!

This week has been very exciting for me, very exciting and very busy.  Firstly I received my first ever commission from my Etsy shop and secondly I have been beavering away making lots of things for my craft stall at the Pudding Cup Art Market.  

I don't know if you remember this post here where I made myself a crochet hot water bottle cover? 

 Well I put a picture of it in my Etsy shop and last weekend I received a request for a custom order of 4 covers.  I must say I was both excited and terrified at the same time, (excited to receive my first order but a little worried how well they would be received...).  I think I tend to be a little over critical about my work.
The colours for the hot water bottle covers were chosen by my customer from the Woolcraft DK range.  Luckily I had all the colours she requested so could get started right away.

The covers incorporate the beautiful Sunburst Granny Square pattern by Priscilla Hewitt, which is available for free at Ravelry.  I really think that this pattern can make any colour combinations look truly amazing.





All ready to be shipped off to their new owner..


and she was kind enough to email me when she received them
"They are wonderful" she said.  Panic over!

Now time to crack on with my craft table...
 I found some Jarol Heritage yarn in my stash and made these

African Flower pincushions...



and key rings made from Fabel sock yarn.



 I got the idea for the pincushions from this pattern here by Cherry Heart.  I didn't really use the pattern (I have made so many African flowers I can make them by heart) and I just winged the rest; but if any of you would like to make one, the pattern is available for free on her blog.

Perhaps they will make a nice Christmas gift for someone.

Cute Bobble Edging - Crochet Tutorial

If you are looking for an edging that is both perfectly pretty and super simple, then this is the one for you.  It's great for those blankets that you want something a little less girly around the edge.  This is one of my favourite go to borders and is so, so simple, making it perfect for beginners. Abbreviations US Terms dc - double crochet sc - single crochet sl st - slip stitch This border requires an even number of stitches around your blanket.  If you have an odd number, simple increase or decrease 1 stitch on the first round.  Or if you are like me just fudge it (it's only 1 stitch). Attach your yarn anywhere on you blanket with a sc Work sc's into every stitch along each side and 3 sc into each corner stitch continue in this way around your blanket and join with a sl st to the first sc Now turn your blanket over and work from the wrong side, dc in the first stitch and... sl st in the next stitch Repeat these

How to add a simple shell border to a granny square baby blanket - Crochet Tutorial

A pretty shell border is the perfect way to finish off a crochet project.  You can use it to edge a blanket, a hat or even the cuff of a sleeve... Simple Shell Edging Abbreviations US Terms dc - double crochet sc - single crochet sl st - slip stitch ch - chain sp - space Adding your border to a granny square... Starting on any odd numbered round, join your yarn with a sc, 3 spaces to the right of any corner, then work 7 dc into the next sp... ...and sc in the next sp. Now working into the corner sp.  Into this and every corner make 9 dc... ...and then a sc into the next sp. Continue in this fashion around your granny square until you get back to the beginning.  Join with a sl st to you starting sc. Granny Square Fingerless Mitts - Mini Mother's Day series part 2

Hello everyone, it's time for part 2 of our mini Mother's Day pattern series and this week we have the mitts to match the boot cuffs we made in part 1.  It's another granny square design (you know how I love granny squares) and they are quick and easy to make. The mitts will fit an average adults hands but can be adjusted for bigger or smaller hands by going up or down a hook size.  You could even use less rounds for your squares to make them the right size for a child.  The pattern is easily adjustable. I have used Stylecraft Batik Elements in shade Magnesium and Stylecraft Batik in Cream to make my mitts, but you could use any colours you wish or make in just one colour.  This is a great project to play around with colour, the options are limitless.  I would love to see yours, why not join the  Facebook group  and share your photos or use #lullabylodge on Instagram. Sweet Dreams Baby Blanket - Free Crochet Pattern

My Blanket Stitch tutorial has been very popular and many people have asked for a full pattern for one of the blankets featured in that post.  So by popular demand here is the Sweet Dreams Baby Blanket.  I have designed the blanket in two different sizes and two colourways, you can of course use any colours you like and create a truly individual blanket. Who doesn't love a granny stripe?  The granny stripe blanket is in my opinion, the most quintessential crochet blanket of them all...  They have been around for decades and the basic pattern is so easy to master.  You only need to know a few basic stitches and in no time at all, you can create a gorgeous, squishy, stripy, colourful blanket, perfect for snuggles on the sofa. The Granny Stripe US terms are used throughout. The Granny Flower Square is probably the most simple flower motif out there and can be used to make almost anything your imagination can think of.  Of course my most favourite thing to make has always been blankets and I have made many in the past using this motif. The Granny Flower Square This pattern now has a video tutorial (new for 2021)... Abbreviations dc - double crochet tr - treble crochet sl st - slip stitch  ch - chain  sp - space Instructions in parenthesis [  ] are repeated the required number of times.  Join new colours with a sl st.  Start each round with a ch 3 or chain less dc unless otherwise stated.  US terms are used throughout. Iris Stitch Edging - Add this pretty Iris Stitch border to your blankets...

For those of you who know me well, you will know that making blankets is my most favourite thing and adding the border to a finished blanket is the best part of blanket making.  Don't get me wrong I love the whole process.  Choosing the design, colours, type of yarn, spending time all snuggly and warm with a growing blanket on your lap is pure bliss to me, but those final few rounds that add the finishing touch to your masterpiece, is just the cherry on the cake.  I love that feeling of completion  and achievement you get when you finish a blanket. As you know all through January we have been on a stash busting marathon, making a new granny square each day.  Well, all the squares are finished and joined and it's now time for the border.  I wanted something pretty but simple to go with all the floral themed squares.  So I thought the Iris Stitch would make a wonderful edging to my finished blanket and of course I must also share this with you all...
