Repeat clue 1 but this time change colours after each round, ending with round 5 in MC.  For round 4 you can use a neutral shade like cream if you like.

You should end up with 4 motifs, 2 plain and 2 coloured. Your motifs should look something like this. Remember the final round will vary depending on the size you are making and size small has no round 5 at all...

Clue 2

Joining

With one coloured and one plain motif and MC –

1.      Hold motifs right sides together

2.      With slip knot on hook, insert hook into top right corner sp through both pieces and sc

3.      Sc in each st across joining both pieces together

4.      Finish with sc in top left corner sp and fasten off

5.      Orientate your work so that the opposite edge can be joined next

6.      As step 2

7.      Sc in next 3 sts joining both pieces together

8.      Next working through bottom motif only, sl st in each st until 3 sts remain

9.      Now working through both pieces again sc in next 3 sts joining both pieces together

10.  Repeat step 4 but do not fasten off

11.  Turn your work and sl st in next 3 sts

12.  Repeat step 8 (this should be the other motif this time as you turned your work)

13.  Sl st into sc and fasten off

Your motifs should now be joined all the way on one side and on the opposite, joined at the edges with a gap in the middle

Repeat this process with the other two motifs.
