Weekend Mystery CAL Start Crocheting Here...
Sizes Adult S [M, L, XL] (there is only a very small difference in sizes to don't worry too much about picking the right one)
Special stitches:
Granny cluster - 3dc in same sp.
Pattern Notes:
Read pattern carefully before starting
Pattern is in US terms
Chain 3 & 4 at the start of the round counts as a double & treble crochet respectively
When repeating clue 1 fasten off and join a new colour after each round in space between granny clusters
Clue 1
Using 3.5mm hook with MC only, make 2
Ch4 and join with sl st to form ring.
Round 1 ch3 (counts as dc), 11dc into ring, join with sl st to top ch3. (12dc)
Round 2 sl st into sp between 2 st's, ch3, dc in same sp, 2dc in each sp between sts around, join with sl st to top ch3, fasten off. (24dc)
Round 3 sl st in each st across to the next sp, ch3, 2dc in same sp, gcl in each sp between groups of sts from previous round, join with sl st (12gcl)
Round 4 sl st in each st across to the next sp, ch4, 2tr in same sp, ch2, 3tr in same sp (first corner formed), gcl in next 2 sps *[3tr, ch2, 3tr] in next sp, gcl in next 2 sps*, repeat from *to* twice and join with sl st to top ch4. (8gcl, 24tr, 4 ch2 sp)
Size Medium only
Round 5 ch1 (does not count as st), sc in same place, sc in each st to corner, in corner sp [sc, ch1, sc], cont with sc in each st and in each corner [sc, ch1, sc], join with sl st to 1st sc. Fasten off.
Size Large Only
Round 5 ch1 (does not count as st), hdc in same place, hdc in each st to corner, in corner sp [2hdc, ch1, 2hdc], cont with sc in each st and in each corner [2hdc, ch1, 2hdc], join with sl st to 1st hdc. Fasten off.
Size Extra Large Only
Round 5 ch3, dc in next st and in each st to corner, in corner [2dc, ch1, 2dc], cont with sc in each st and in each corner [2dc, ch1, 2dc], join with sl st to top ch3. Fasten off.
Repeat clue 1 but this time change colours after each round, ending with round 5 in MC. For round 4 you can use a neutral shade like cream if you like.
You should end up with 4 motifs, 2 plain and 2 coloured. Your motifs should look something like this. Remember the final round will vary depending on the size you are making and size small has no round 5 at all...
Clue 2
Joining
With one coloured and one plain motif and MC –
1. Hold motifs right sides together
2. With slip knot on hook, insert hook into top right corner sp through both pieces and sc
3. Sc in each st across joining both pieces together
4. Finish with sc in top left corner sp and fasten off
5. Orientate your work so that the opposite edge can be joined next
6. As step 2
7. Sc in next 3 sts joining both pieces together
8. Next working through bottom motif only, sl st in each st until 3 sts remain
9. Now working through both pieces again sc in next 3 sts joining both pieces together
10. Repeat step 4 but do not fasten off
11. Turn your work and sl st in next 3 sts
12. Repeat step 8 (this should be the other motif this time as you turned your work)
13. Sl st into sc and fasten off
Your motifs should now be joined all the way on one side and on the opposite, joined at the edges with a gap in the middle
Repeat this process with the other two motifs.
Can you guess what you are making?
