Inspired by all the amazing photos on Instagram and Pinterest, I had wanted to make a temperature blanket for some time.  So I thought I would share my blanket progress with you, including lots of tips and tricks.  If you would like to make one too, this is how you do it.   The idea is simple.  Every day, use the local weather stations highest temperature of that day, to choose your crochet colours.  This will result in a gorgeous blanket by the end of the year.  You just allocate which colours you will use for a range of temperatures and crochet 1 row each day corresponding to that days temperature.  I used Stylecraft Special DK for my blanket, but you can use any yarn you like.  Depending on where you live you may need to adjust how many colours and what temperatures you will need... For my blanket I chose 10 colours to represent the warmer days... ...and 10 colours to represent the cooler days. It is so exciting to watch your blanket develope.  M

Who doesn't love a granny stripe?  The granny stripe blanket is in my opinion, the most quintessential crochet blanket of them all...  They have been around for decades and the basic pattern is so easy to master.  You only need to know a few basic stitches and in no time at all, you can create a gorgeous, squishy, stripy, colourful blanket, perfect for snuggles on the sofa. The Granny Stripe US terms are used throughout. Abbreviations  sc Single crochet   dc Double crochet   sl st Slip stitch   ch Chain   sp Space    sk skip  Notes:  You can use any yarn weight you like with this stitch, just use the hook size recommended on your yarn ball band. Well hello everyone!  If you have been waiting for another stash busting post please accept my apologies, I have had a couple of commissions that have taken up all of my time and the stash busting will have to wait.  So, I will share 1 of those with you instead. I was very fortunate enough to receive an order for a single bed blanket.  I don't make large blankets very often, so it was a refreshing change.  My customer chose the colours and the design.  She wanted granny flowers on a cream background.  The room the blanket was intended for was to have Cath Kidston wallpaper and so the colours were chosen around this... I used Stylecraft Special Aran for this project.  I find an aran weight yarn is much nicer for making bigger blankets and the Stylecraft aran is so soft and squishy.   Colours used  - Lemon, Pale Rose, Cloud, Aster, Pomegranate, Pistachio, Baby Pink and Cream. It is always a really exciting time for me when I get commissioned to make a new blanket.  Especially when asked to make one in Cath Kidston inspired colours.  I have always loved her gorgeous fabrics, stunning colour combinations and the vintage feel to her designs.  So here is my Vintage Granny Flower blanket... For this blanket I have used Stylecraft Special Aran and a 5 mm hook.  The blanket measures approximately 110 x 110 cm. Colours used: Pomegranate,  Fondant,  Baby Pink,  Lemon,  Meadow,  Cloud Blue and  Cream. I started by making the flowers.  I don't use a pattern for this but there are many available on the internet as it is just a simple granny flower design.  I just love this combination of colours.  These are my happy colours! Over the summer holidays, The Gilmore Girls came out on Netflix and I spent many an afternoon hanging out with Lorelai and Rory.  It's nice easy viewing, perfect to watch while indulging in some afternoon hooky.   Having very eclectic tastes myself I love the style of Lorelai's house.  I particularly love the crochet blanket you can see in some of the episodes, draped across her sofa.  It's a beautiful pale duck egg colour (this just happens to be my most favourite colour). I decided that I wanted to try and create something similar.  First I needed some yarn.  I discovered that Woolcraft New Fashion DK had added some new colours to their range and one of them just happened to be Duck Egg.  So I ordered some right away.  I use Woolcraft yarn a lot and particularly like it for blankets.  It's a bit thicker than some DK yarns and has a really soft almost fluffy texture.  It makes lovely squishy blankets and has a good choice of colours.   I searched th
